Video Script Templates: Short, Explainer, Testimonial and Music Video
Four ready-to-copy script templates: a short-form video, an explainer, a customer testimonial and a music video treatment, each with an example and notes on what makes it work.

A template will not write a good script for you, but it stops you from forgetting the parts that make one work. Copy the format that fits your video, fill it in, then read it aloud with a timer.
1. Short-form template (30–60 seconds)
| Part | Time | What goes here |
|---|---|---|
| Hook | 0–3 s | One line that creates a question or promise |
| Context | 3–10 s | Why it matters, in one sentence |
| Body | 10–45 s | Three beats: facts, steps or story |
| Payoff | 45–55 s | The answer or result the hook promised |
| Loop or CTA | last seconds | A line that sends viewers back to the start or to part two |

2. Explainer video script template (60–90 seconds)
- Problem: "Every week, small shops lose hours to [problem]."
- Agitate: one concrete example of what it costs.
- Solution: "[Product] does [main job] in [simple terms]."
- How it works: three simple steps, each with a visual.
- Proof: a number, a result or a short customer line.
- Call to action: one clear next step.
Example opening: "You took ten photos of your receipt and still can't find it at tax time. Here's a three-step fix."
3. Testimonial video script guide
Testimonials should not be scripted word for word: viewers spot memorized lines, and in many countries endorsements must reflect the customer's genuine experience. Instead, use a question guide and let the customer answer in his or her own words:
- What was the situation before?
- What problem were you trying to solve?
- Why did you choose us?
- What changed? Any concrete result?
- Who would you recommend it to?
Edit the answers into a before, turning point, after structure. Never invent testimonials or use actors presented as real customers, and disclose any payment or free product the customer received.
4. Music video treatment
Music videos usually start from a treatment rather than a dialogue script:
| Section | Content |
|---|---|
| Concept | The idea in two or three sentences |
| Look | Palette, locations, references |
| Song map | Intro, verses, chorus, bridge with timestamps |
| Shot list per section | What we see in each part, and where the cuts fall |
| Performance vs story | How much is the artist performing vs a narrative |

Two-column format for any template
Whatever you write, put visuals on the left and audio on the right. It makes editing faster and shows immediately where you have nothing to show. More in how to write a video script.
